In Tibetan Buddhism, the Dalai Lama is traditionally believed to reincarnate after death, with religious authorities identifying a child as his successor. An alternative concept is emanation, where a spiritual leader chooses to manifest their presence in an already existing adult rather than being reborn as a child. The Dalai Lama stated that he would continue the tradition of reincarnation. However, he could also have announced that he would be emanated into a living adult.
